BUTE, John Stuart, Earl of (1713-1792). Prime Minister 1762-1763.
Document Signed, 1 page folio (oblong) on vellum, partially printed, with blue revenue stamps, Whitehall, 2 July 1762. Signed also by three others. Appointing John Grundy of Spalding as one of the Receivers General of parts of Lincolnshire in respect of the Land Tax.

A Land Tax was imposed between 1692 and 1831, and was made perpetual in 1797. The usual rate was 4 shillings in the pound.
