AMHERST, Jeffrey, Baron (1717-1797). Commander-in-chief in North America 1758-1763.
Letter Signed to Lt Colonel Burton, 1 page 4to (brown stain, possibly ink, not affecting the text), St James's Square, 2 October 1793. Thanking Burton for his offer to serve abroad, and tactfully explaining that there is nothing available for the moment, but when something comes along (and the Duke of Gloucester approves), he will gladly forward Burton's cause.
