BADER, Sir Douglas Robert Steuart (1910-1982). Royal Air Force Officer.
First-day cover ('Return to Colditz' in aid of the Red Cross) signed by Bader, Dick Howe, Lady Airy ('Airy of Abingdon', widow of Airy Neave) and Pat Reid. Reid was the author of The Colditz Story, where he shared quarters in the prison with the other signers.
In addition, there is a photograph of Bader seated on a table, behind which Airey Neave and Lady Airey are seated. A Red Cross sign indicates that the photograph was taken a fund-raising event and the inference is that it was for the signing of the covers.
