DARWIN, Charles (1809-1882). Naturalist. Letter Signed to [William Ralston Shedden-]Ralston (1828-89, Librarian and Russian schollar), 1 page 8vo, Down, Beckenham, Kent, 20 December 1875. Enclosing Malan's letter (no longer present) for Ralston to read and return, and remarking 'The Georgian letter is so foolish that I shall not answer it'. Though this letter is not noted in the Correspondence of Charles Darwin, ed. Curwen, two letters from Ralston, dated 2 and 3 December 1875 are. The first explains that the letter from Tiflis is Georgian and not Russian, and the second assures Darwin that S C Malan, the Rector of Broadwindsor can translate the letter. The word 'Georgian' is inserted in Darwin's hand. [No: 7654]
