INGERSOLL, Robert Green (1833-1899). American lawyer and agnostic; colonel in the Civil War.
Autograph Letter Signed to Hutchins, 2 pages 8vo, written sideways on lined paper (mounting tape adhering to the side, splits), Washington, D.C., 29 December 1884. Declaring Hutchins's rheumatism to be the worst 'ism' in the world with the exception of presbyterianism and offering advice for its cure.
'... The other day I was told ... that the best possible cure for that ism was Dennims' Cure for Rheumatism. Get it and take up thy bed & walk, or let the bed alone.'
