BERLIOZ, Hector (1803-1869). French composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Camille [?Pal], 1 page 8vo (very slightly trimmed), slightly smudged where folded when the ink was wet, Paris, 12 October 1867. Acknowledging the receipt of two thousand francs advanced to him by Jacques for his forthcoming (and final) tour to Russia, and adding in a postscript that he leaves on the 12th of November.
Though weakened by illness and desolate at the death of his beloved son Louis the previous June, Berlioz succumbed to the pleas of the Grand Duchess Helen of Russia and agreed to conduct six concerts at the Conservatoire in St Petersburg in November of1867. He confessed to Estelle Fornier earlier in October Now that I am no longer capable of it, everything is coming my way.
