NORTH, Frederick, Second Earl of Guilford (1732-1792). Prime Minister 1770-1782. Document Signed, 1 page folio (oblong) on vellum, partially printed, with revenue stamps, Whitehall, 28 June 1768 (North's signature rather faint). Also signed by three others. Appointing John Grundy of Spalding Receiver General of part of Lincolnshire in respect of the Land Tax. A Land Tax was imposed between 1692 and 1831, and was made perpetual in 1797. The usual rate was 4 shillings in the pound. [No: 5147]
