MONMOUTH, James Scott, Duke of (1649-1685). Natural son of Charles II. Led rebellion of 1685; executed.
Letter Signed to the Earl of Oxford, Colonel of the Horse Guards, ½ page folio with integral address-leaf (browned, repairs to the margins), 13 May 1676.
Forwarding 'a late Order of his Maties to the severall Colonells of His Mats Established Forces and to the Governours of his Mats Guarrisons'.
 The Duke's popularity and influence were high at this time. He was captain-general of all the King's forces and had shortly before returned victorious from the Dutch wars.
