GASKELL, Elizabeth Cleghorn (1810-1865). Novelist. Autograph Letter Signed to Sir Rutherford [?Alcock], 1 page 8vo, (slight glue-stains), Rue du Bac, 21 February no year [?1855]. Giving her Manchester address and looking forward to a pleasant visit from him once she has returned to England. Madame Mohl continued the salon of Madame Récamier and relocated it from l'Abbaye aux Bois to Paris. The social and intellectual environment of her apartment on Rue du Bac drew many English visitors, including Mrs Gaskell and her daughters. In 1855, Mrs Gaskell and Meta arrived on 13 February and stayed a fortnight. [No: 4377]
