BRITTON, John (1771-1857). Antiquary, topographical & architectural writer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Robert Cooke, sending a sample of his 'literary workmanship', 1 page 8vo (laid down and glue-stained), Burton Street, 14 March 1851. The recipient is probably Robert Cooke (1816-1891), the cousin of John Murray III and a partner in the firm. He had a particularly good relationship with John Murray IV.

'In forwarding for Mr Johnston a packet I have addressed to him, I embrace the opportunity to offer for your acceptance, & in token of old association a specimen of my literary workmanship, with an auto-graph of the author, that you may hereafter refer to it as having had some intercourse with / yr sincere friend / J. Britton.'
