HASTINGS, Warren (1732-1818). Governor-general of India.
Cheque made out and signed by Hastings (in full 'Warren Hastings') to Messrs Browne & Whitefoord for £60. Drawn on Messrs Robert, Francis & William Gosling, London 1 February 1791.

This cheque dates from the time of Hastings's trial for supposed irregularities during his governorship. The trial lasted intermittently for seven years (1788-1795) as and when parliamentary business allowed.
