For the last 11 years I have taken much interest in the concerns of a poor Usher of a school whom I happened to find in the utmost extremity of want with a little learning & a most irreproachable character. I assisted in obtaining the nomination of Mr J. Lee to be Master of the St James's National School, which he has now held for above nine years, with the highest praise & approbation of the Bishop of London ... he is now a Candidate to be Head-Master of the National Society's Central School Sanctuary Westminster, & your influence in the Committees of Electors, is well known to be, as it well deserves to be most powerful. ...'
