GEORGE III (1738-1820). King of the United kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Document Signed, countersigned by the Duke of Portland (1738-1809, Prime Minister), 1 page folio with blank leaf on paper, given at St James's, 20 August 1800. Appointing Joseph Battin to be 'Captain of a Company of the Association of the Inhabitants of the City of Bath'.

'... to serve without Pay, for the Protection thereof, in Case of any Emergency, at the requisition of the Civil Power; but not to take Rank in Our Army, nor the said Association to be subject to Military Discipline, or to serve out of the said City and its neighbourhood except of their own Accord. ...'
