PIPER, John (1903-1992). Artist.
Three Autograph Letters Signed to the bookseller Ifan Kyle Fletcher, in all 2 pages 4to and one side of a correspondence card, Henley-on-Thames, 1943-1948. Primarily ordering and acknowledging the receipt of books.
'... We should be very grateful to hear of books from you, from time to time, about Wales, but also of any local guides to towns or districts - from c. 1790 to c. 1830 to any part of the British Isles.'
'The decor designs for The Quest were purchased together soon after the first performance, and given to the Sadlers' Wells Company. ...'Piper's designs for the stage included The Quest, a ballet produced in 1943. He also designed for plays (e.g. Stephen Spender's Trial of a Judge) and opera (six Benjamin Britten operas).
Included is a letter from Piper's wife Myfanwy, explaining that a cheque in payment for The Vale of Neath was signed by her and not by her husband and that it may have been misplaced. Another of John Piper's letters remarks on how much he has enjoyed the book, a present from his wife.
