BURTON, Richard (1925-1984). Actor. Typewritten Letter Signed ('Richard Burton') to [Frank O.] Salisbury, 1 page 8vo (oblong), Hampstead, 22 April 1956. Thanking him in witty terms for his portrait. 'I think my chances of immortality, though faint, have been considerably strenghtened by your work.' Salisbury had painted Richard Burton as Shakespeare's Henry V from the recent Old Vic production. Burton's performance was acclaimed and he was hailed as the natural successor to Olivier; however, the 1955-56 Old Vic season was to be his last on the London stage. The painting can be seen in the Victoria & Albert museum. [No: 26502]
