Commenting on a photographic rendering of one of his paintings and offering suggestings for improvement. 'The yellow of the grain field comes out so black in spots - that I think it would be well if the Engraver would keep that portion much lighter. ...'Approving of a proof of 'Evangeline': 'Many thanks for giving me an opportunity of altering it.'
