SEARLE, Ronald William Fordham (1920-2011). Caricaturist, cartoonist, illustrator, designer & publisher.
Autograph Letter Signed to the publisher Charles Ede (1921-2002), 1 page 4to (filing holes in the margin not affecting the text), 32 Newton Road, 22 February 1953. Returning a manuscript on the grounds that his time will be taken up for 'a good couple of years' with Perpetua so that he is restricting his 'bookwork' to his own firm.

'... No doubt the Folio Society will still be going strong when I emerge again ...'

Searle and his wife Kaye started their own press, Perpetua, in 1952. Charles Ede (1921-2002) was the founder of the Folio Society and had presumably asked Searle to illustrate a book that the society was to publish.
