Autograph Letter Signed to 'Sir Martin', 3 pages 8vo, 20 Cavendish Square, 19 April 1896. Adding to a description of his career which Sir Martin has sent him.

The only addition that I can think of to its comprehensive & too flattering description of my work would be a reference to the Prison Committee, appointed in '94, which suggested a number of reforms of the most far-reaching kind ... . I was beginning to give effect to its recommendations when I left office ...'
