PITT, William, the younger (1759-1806). Prime Minister 1783-1801 & 1804-1806.
Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 1 page 4to (slightly trimmed at the left hand side, not affecting the text), Downing Street, 20 April 1805. Urging his correspondent to attend Parliament immediately after the recess when there will be 'Business of the utmost Importance'

Pitt had been Prime Minister for a year when he wrote this letter. His office had been dominated by the war with Napoleon. The current year was to see Nelson's victory at Trafalgar and Pitt's successful establishment of an alliance with Austria, Russia and Sweden, perhaps the substance of the 'important business'.
