ELGAR, Sir Edward William (1857-1934). Composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Miss Perowne (possibly the daughter of John Perowne, Bishop of Worcester), 2½ pages 8vo, Forli, Malvern, 16 December no year. Declining to make any definite arrangement to meet Miss Roberts and confirming the date of 'The Concert'.

Included is a printed message, stamped with the date 29 June 1929 and reading with characteristic modesty:
'Sir Edward Elgar gives his autograph at the request of personal friends only.'

Elgar had married Caroline Alice Roberts (probably no relation of the Miss Roberts mentioned in this letter) in 1889. They moved to Forli, a semi-detached house in Malvern Link, in 1891 (the name was not one of his own invention) and remained there until 1899.
