MACKAIL, John William (1859-1945). Classicial scholar, literary critic, and poet.
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Gove, 2 pages 8vo, Cotswold House, Campden, Gloucestershire, 15 January 1944. Providing a view of family activities, congratulating Mrs Gove on her bravery in living in a flat in London and sending best wishes to all her family.

'... Mother and both our daughters here: Angela for only a week, as Campden strangely enough does not suit her and she can't be in it for more than a week at a time ... . She goes on, as you may have seen in the newspapers, writing books busily besides doing a good deal of war-work, only troubled by writer's cramp which makes her handwriting almost illegible....'

Angela was a successful writer of novels under her married name, Angela Thirkell.
