BETJEMAN, Sir John (1906-1984). Poet.
Revealing Typewritten Letter Signed to the poet Clifford Dyment (1914-1971), 1 page 8vo (oblong), Farnborough, Wantage, 30 December 1949. Promising to review his book of poetry in the 'Herald', though he finds it difficult in the small space allotted to him there.

'... I am very moved by your poem "Syringa". It conveyed a state of mind in which I live myself, Do not feel depressed about getting no reviews. On the whole, I would rather have no reviews than uncomprehending ones, which are about all one can expect nowadays. And you are a poet, you have that consolation. ...'
