CHATEAUBRIAND, François René de (1768-1848). French writer and statesman.
Letter Signed with autograph postscript to an unnamed correspondent ('Monsieur'), 2 pages 8vo (splits neatly repaired), Paris, 4 December 1820.

Apologising for not being able to hold the committee meeting, and expressing the hope that Quatremère de Quincy, 'notre véritable président', along with Raoul-Rochette, will be able to organise things, thanking his correspondent for kind words about his departure, which he feels he only deserves on account of 'mon zèle pour la cause de la Monarchie et des Royalistes', adding in a postscript that he is enclosing a letter about the medal.Paris, 4 December 1820

Quatremère de Quincy was Perpetual Secretary of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, a post held subsequently by Raoul-Rochette. Chateaubriand was appointed ambassador to Berlin in 1821 and was presumably in the midst of preparations for his departure at the time of writing.
