SAINT-SAENS, Camille (1835-1921). French pianist, organist and composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to a lady (a singer), 2 pages 8vo on black-edged paper, no place, no date [1881 or later].

Explaining that he is in the same position as she, having been told by [the conductor Edouard] Colonne that there would be no rehearsal for his cantata Prométhée the next day, but suggesting that since she has been sent an invitation, she should come along as a guest, since one never knows what might happen ('comme les autres interprètes de ma Cantate seront présents pour le Septuor il peut arriver que l'on change d'idée'), but in any event the cantata in his opinion is well-known and can be performed without any rehearsal.

Les Noces de Prométhée Op. 19 was composed in 1867. It is scored for a Narrator (tenor), Humanity (soprano), Prometheus (baritone), double chorus and orchestra. His correspondent is presumably the soprano who was to sing the role of Humanity. Saint-Saëns's Septet (assuming that it is his own work to which he refers here), Op. 65, dates from 1881.
