RAYMOND, Ernest (1888-1974). Novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed to Miss Collant, 1 page 8vo, Paddock's End, Haywards Heath, 11 May 1924. Declining her invitation to be nominated as Chairman of the Poetry Society on the grounds that he lives too far from the scene of operations and that his forthcoming novel may cause controversy that might injure the Society.

The thinly-veiled autobiographical novel he refers to is Wanderlight, which portrays a young ordinand's struggles with his conscience and withdrawal from the priesthood. Raymond's inability to believe in the Trinity had led him to leave holy orders the previous year.
