BENEDICT, Sir Julius (1804-1885). Musician.
Two Autograph Letters Signed to the Birmingham solicitor W[illiam] J[ames] Beale, in all 5 pages 8vo, 2 Manchester Square, 9 July 1872 and 7 January 1874. Inviting Beale and family to dine on one of two days, thanking Beale for his donation and inviting him to join the committee overseeing the Mendelssohn Scholarships.

'... We should - caeteris paribus - prefer Friday on account of the new opera Guarany which will be brought out on Thursday ...'

Il Guarany, an opera ballo compossed by Antonio Carlos Gomes, was the first Brazilian opera to gain acclaim outside of Brazil.

'... trust you will kindly allow me to propose you as Member of our Committee, to which we added lately Mr Geo. Grove (of the Crystal Palace) ...'
