NEWTON, Robert (1780-1854). Wesleyan Methodist minister.
Autograph Letter Signed to the Revd John Hodg[address incomplete] in Oundle, 1 page 4to (trimmed, touching the ends of the lines on the right hand side), Manchester 14 December 1833. Describing his itinerary, and promising to get to Manchester.

'I am engaged to be at Cambridge on Wednesday the 8th of Jany next, and I think I could be at Stamford on the 9th for afternoon & evg service. I believe the Cambridge coach arrives in your Town about noon. If then you deem this plan practicable, and if I hear nothing from you to the contrary, you may expect me accordingly.'

Newton was four times president of the Wesleyan conference and travelled widely, particularly after rail travel became possible. His letters rarely appear on the market.
