CHALGRIN, Jean (1739-1811). French architect.
Autograph Letter (third person) to his colleague Molinot, 1 page 8vo with address-leaf ('A Monsieur/Molinot Architect/inspecteur general du departements/a Paris') 'ce 10 matin'. Asking somewhat tentatively whether he has made a decision about the ?? which he has drawn up and assuring him of his friendship.
Chalgrin, who studied under the neoclassical architect Servandoni, designed the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. In 1805 he was finishing work on the palais du Luxembourg, which was being converted from a royal residence to the seat of the Directory (it is now the seat of the French Senate).
