GILBERT, Sir William Schwenck (1836-1911). Dramatist and collaborator with Sir Arthur Sullivan.
Autograph Letter Signed to Miss Cowan, 2 facing pages 8vo (some foxing and light soiling), 19 Harrington Gardens, South Kensington, 14 July 1884. Giving the reason for being unable to see her until September.
'... I am yachting along the South Coast on my way to the West of Scotland. ...'
The letter is written on headed paper of the Yacht Chloris, but the words crossed through and replaced with Harrington Gardens. Gilbert's yacht 'Chloris' was built by J. Harvey and Co. of Wivenhoe in 1881 and was a yawl of 69.16 gross tons (Lloyd's Register of Yachts).
