Autograph Letter Signed to 'Dear Mr Kelly' (possibly Gerald Festus Kelly, later Sir Gerald, 1879-1972), 1½ pages 8vo (a little soiled), Coign, Hook Heath, 9 July no year. Thanking him for a work of [Robert] Bridges, and discussing setting poems to music.
'... Is the poem you mean "Whither O splendid ship"? [The opening of Bridges's poem A Passer-by] It is very fine but to my mind, do you know, it doesn't cry for music. It seems to me complete in itself. Why some poems seem equally fitted to stand alone or to mate with music I don't know. Perhaps it is individual & anyhow his work appeals I see to H. Parry's music ...'
