LEAR, Edward (1812-1888). Artist and nonsense poet.
Autograph Letter Signed to Sir Henry [Holland (1788-1873, physician)], 2 pages 8vo, 15 Stratford Place, oxford Street, 13 May 1865. Inviting him to view the pictures that Lear had brought back with him for his travels.
'... I was very sorry to find, by your card sent out to me at Nice, that you had called last December when I was away: the more that I had had a picture of Jo\'c3\'a1nnina I believe you would have liked to see, & which I regretted I had not asked you to come & look at, before it went away to Mr. Fairbairn who purchased it.'
Lear probably painted several pictures of the landscape of Joannina in Greece.
