MUNNINGS, Sir Alfred James (1878-1959). Painter.
Two Autograph Letters Signed to G[eorge] H[erbert] B[uckingham] Holland (1901-1987, painter), 23 May [1931] and 29 December 1936. The letters are sent from 96 Chelsea Park Gardens and Castle House, Dedham, Essex. In turn encouraging and critising Holland's work, and offering career advice.
'... we hung all the good ones we could get hold of. Perhaps yours wasn't so good as it should have been. As we never look at the signatures we never know who did the pictures. ...
'But surely you can paint folk at a small fee & get a living?! Your work is very good. ... ... I'm on the selection & hanging again - you let me know what you're sending.'
