BROWNING, Robert (1812-1889). Poet.
Autograph Letter Signed to Miss (probably Barbara) Lyall, 1 page 8vo, Venice, 29 October 1883. Assuring her that he and his sister [Sarianna] would be happy to see her in London 'or anywhere else', and urging her to call on them.
Barbara Lyall, later Mrs R. Webb, was the sister of Sir Alfred Lyall (1835-1911, Administrator in India and writer) who produced several works of prose and poetry following his retirement from the Indian service. Barbara is known to have approached Browning earlier in this month (October 1883) to seek his opinion on one of his poems.
