FORSTER, Edward Morgan (1879-1970). Novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed ('EMF') on a postcard to John Lehmann (1907-1987, publisher and author), West Hackhurst, Abinger Hammer, 2 July 1940. Explaining why he had failed to call on Lehmann as expected.
'I rang the right bells but in the wrong house! I thought your flat was at 37 - have it 45 in my address book. Then I rang up but again the [Hogarth] Press as I couldn't find your name in the phone book. Shld like to come another time.'
John Lehmann had bought Virginia Woolf's share in the Hogarth Press in 1938 and remained with the firm until 1946 when he started his own firm.
