FOCH, Ferdinand (1851-1929). Marshal of France.
Autograph Letter Signed to a fellow Marshal, 2 pages 8vo with integral blank leaf, no place, 25 December 1919.
Congratulating him on escaping great danger ('J'ai été tré ému en apprenant le grand danger que vous aviez couru et particulierement heureux de voir la façon brillante dont vous en étiéz sorti').
'I was very moved to hear the great danger that you ran and particularly pleased to see the brilliant way in which you extricated yourself, which did not surprise me at all. You have been in worse situations. Anyway let me tell you how dear you are to me whether you are far or near. And how much I appreciate the difficulties which appear before you but which your bravery will overcome - That the New Year will bring you perfect health and all the satisfaction which you thoroughly deserve.' [Translation]
