EDWARD VII (1841-1910). King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Autograph Letter Signed as king ('Edward R') to [Frederick Edward Grey] Ponsonby ('My dear Fritz'), 2 sides of a correspondence-card with envelope (rather soiled), Buckingham Palace, 7 June 1903. The envelope (rather more dust-soiled than the letter) is signed with initials ('ER') in the lower left hand corner.
Congratulating Ponsonby on the birth of a son, and adding the wish that 'Mrs Fritz will make a good recovery'.
Ponsonby (1867-1935, later first Baron Sysonby) had been an equerry and later an assistant private secretary to Queen Victoria, and had remained on the staff of the new king, with whom he was on friendly terms.
