POTTER, Alonzo (1800-1865). American bishop of the Episcopal Church.
Autograph Letter Signed to the Bishop of Landaff, 1½ pages 8vo (hole on the second page repaired), Great Malvern, 24 July 1858. Praising the bishop's Charges ('One cannot but quietly admire the dispassionate spirit which pervades them'), and promising to accept his invitation should his health allow him to travel.
'... We are at present (Mrs P & myself) in the hands of the Water-Doctors who are autocrats & allow us little liberty of locomotion. ...'
