BARRETT, Francis (fl. 1780-1814). Writer on magic, & demonologist. Autograph Letter Signed to Messrs Lackington Allen & Company at the Temple of the Muses, 3 pages 4to with integral address-leaf, Plymouth, 12 February 1809. Offering, for a fee of £50, a key to the Cabala, which was referred to in his Magus, but not fully explained and listing some 'curious' books in his possession. '... I deliver'd some secrets in the Magus the true meaning & use of which I reserv'd to myself. I have in this Key fully explain'd & elucidated those parts of the Cabala & manner of working the Tables, without reserve. But shou'd not chuse to give them to the public without an adequate remuneration, well knowing that it will greatly enhance the sale of the work you have. ...'Amongst the books described is: 'The Sounding of the Trumpets or Finger of God Visible Being a declaration of God's judgement upon the Earth in the fulfillment of certain prophecies of Daniel & Revelations in the present remarkable coincidence of Human affairs etc.etc.etc. ...'Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M.
