ROGERS, Samuel (1763-1855). Poet. A typically toadying note declining an invitation to dine ('with you & the Speaker'), 2 pages on his usual 16mo paper, 'Saturday', 2 August no year. The letter lacks a salutation, beginning 'A thousand thanks!', but is evidently complete. '... You will, I am sure, do me the justice to admire me for an act of generosity on my part, an act well-worthy of a more heroic age. For I relinquish the Poet to you, tho' my engagement at home was made for him.' [No: 24816] The image is of the second page.
