LOUIS PHILIPPE (1773-1850). Duc d'Orléans, King of France 1830-1848.
Autograph Letter Signed (with his monogram 'LP') to a marquis, 1 page 8vo with integral endorsed leaf, Monday, 24 November 1817.
About the restitution of a portrait of Henri IV, formerly at Versailles: he tells his correspondent that, according to his sister, when they were children the portrait of Henri IV used to hang in the Salle de Spectacle at Versailles next to the equestrian portrait of their grandfather [also Louis-Philippe d'Orléans, known as 'le gros'] which was given back to him that morning, so it will not be on view, and he is very anxious for its return ('... alors il ne serait pas exposé, & comme vous connaissés le prix que je mettrais à en obtenir la restitution, je n'ai pas voulu perdre un instant à vous informer de cette circonstance, afin que vous voyés dans votre obligeance pour moi ce qu'il y aurait à faire pour y parevenir ...').
Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903.
