NECKER, Jacques (1732-1804). French statesman.Email about this entry
Ls to M. Ferray in Lyon, 1 page folio (slightly trimmed at the head, traces of mounting to the reverse), Paris, 15 October 1788. Announcing that the king had appointed M. Blondet as the administrator the royal vetinerary schools.
Although he had been banished from Paris in 1787 for attacking in pamphlets and memoirs his successor as minister of finance, Calonne, Necker was recalled the following year in view of the economic crisis of the country. His dismissal on 11 July 1789 was to provoke the storming of the Bastille three days later and he was once again recalled, but eventually proved ineffective.
Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903.
