![]() DARWIN, Erasmus (1731-1802). Physician and natural philosopher. Autograph Letter Signed [to the Rev R. Fellowes], 1 page 4to (slight trace of mounting on the reverse, small seal-stain), Derby, 10 April 1799. Thanking him for his 'book on philophical christianity [sic], and expressing the hope that he and Mrs Fellowes would visit the Darwins later in the year. 'I am much obliged to you for your book on philophical christianity, which I shall read with much pleasure I am sure, & I dare say with much instruction, & thank you for the compliment which I accidentally saw you had paid me in a note along with my friend Dr. Beddows [sic]. ...'A note at the foot in another hand identifies Beddows as 'born 1860 died 1808', i.e. Thomas Beddoes, chemist and physician. Together with a small engraved portrait of Darwin by J.T. Wedgwood after J. Thurston. Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903. [No: 24696]
