BURKE, Edmund (1729/30-1797). Politician and Author. Letter Signed to the Secretary of War, Thomas Townshend, 1 page folio, Pay Office, 'July 1782 (note of receipt dated 1 July 1782). Requesting permission to contract for a 'Second Cloathing' for several independent companies. Burke writes as paymaster-general of the army, a post he held for only a few months. The premature death of his patron, Rockingham, brought his occupancy of the post to an end. [No: 24618]
