CARPENTER, Philip Pearsall (1819-1877). Social reformer and conchologist.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent ('My dear Madam'), 1 page 8vo, Warrington, 28 February 1855. Apologising for the delay in replying to her letter, and informing her that he would deliver his last lecture in Liverpool the following Monday before leaving for London.
'... I did not reply to your letter, because 1st I hoped to have called at Rodney St last Monday but was prevented, and Second the united skill of self and Postmaster c[oul]d not exactly make out the sense. I give my last lecture in L[iver]pool next Monday, and leave for London on the 12th. ...'
