Document Signed, 1 page folio (oblong) on vellum with papered seal (dust-stained and a little aged), Whitehall, 16 January 1677/8.
Appointing David Eyton to be an ensigne 'of that Company of Foot in the Regiment of Our Guard called the Coldstreamen com'anded by Our Right Trust and Right Webeloved Cousin and Counsellor William Earle of Craven whereof Captian Symon Parry is Captain'.
 William, earl of Craven (ca 1608-1697, army officer and royal servant) held a number of military appointments including colonel of a regiment of foot, lieutenant-general, and, from 1670, commander of the Coldstream Guards.
