GEORGE II (1683-1760). King of Great Britain and Ireland. Elector of Hanover. Document Signed, 1 page folio (oblong) on vellum with papered seal and revenue stamps (a few small holes and tears in the folds), St James's, 15 December 1738. Appointing John Owen to be captain of a troop of which John, earl of Loudon had formerly been captain 'in our late Dear Consort the Queen's Regiment of Dragoons'. Countersigned by Lord Harrington. George II had married Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach in August 1705 before he became heir to the throne. She was a cultured and intelligent woman, a correspondent of Gottfied Leibniz, and the marriage was largely successful. The queen died on 20 November 1737.
