Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Munro, 3 pages small 4to, French Embassy in Washington, 11 December 1910. Discussing early French Shakespeare scholarship.
'... The earliest is that of Nicholas Clément, written between 1675 and 1684: it is a real judgment passed on Shakespecially and is the earliest formed in any country outside England. ... King Louis XIV possessed a copy of the 2d folio ... Fouquet had previously had one of the folios, which he kept "in his garrett", and which, at his fall, the experts valued at one franc (a copy maybe of the 1st folio). ...'
