MOUNTBATTEN, Louis Alexander (1854-1921). Admiral of the fleet. Good Autograph Letter Signed ('Louis Battenburg') to 'My dear Thomson', 4 pages 8vo (traces of old mounting slightly affecting the signature), Admiralty, 8 September 1904. Thanking him for congratulations (probably for his promotion to rear-admiral) and commenting on German naval forces. '... There is nothing to show that they mean to go beyond their app[pointed] programme in battleships & in cruisers they are decidedly weak. Still they are formidable & we fully take them into acc[oun]t in our calculations. The entire German Navy save a few cruisers on foreign stations was collected at Kiel for the occasion.'
