BLACKMORE, Richard Doddridge (1825-1900). Novelist.
Autograph receipt signed, 1 page small 8vo (oblong, some stains and marks), 9 July 1891. 'Received from H. Williams Esqre the sum of one pound, for forty pounds of strawberries at 6d per lb.'
In 1857 Blackmore had inherited enough money to give up his career as a teacher, which he had continued despite the success of his novel Lorna Doone after 1870, and set himself up as a market gardener.
