CHURCHILL, Lord Randolph (1849-1895). Politician. Father of Sir Winston Churchill. Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 5 pages 8vo (slight remains of mounting to the fourth page and the blank), 2 Connaught Place, 12 August 1889. Assuring a (probably) disgruntled investor that he had no real connection with the firm of Bolton Partners, formed to exploit iron ore on the Blenheim estates. '... My Connexion with it was purely nominal & I never received 6d. from it either in the shape of fees or anything else. It was formed some years ago during my father's lifetime to develop some iron ore on his property near Charlbury. ... I fancy if Sir Francis Bolton had lived if might have pulled along until better times came in the iron trade, for he was a very enterprising sanguine man ... I have sent yr. letter to my solicitor instructing him to find out how the affairs of Bolton Partners stand & to inform you.' [No: 24092] The image is of the fifth (last) page only.
